Snowing all day–snowing all night

Just been out to take a few shots just in case we can’t open the front door in the morning!

Winter Wonderland except it’s still Autumn

More snow overnight but slightly warmer at only –5 in the Park this morning – 20 Fieldfares chattering away in the tree tops but everything else was keeping a very low profile.  Thought I would show some comparison between summer and autumn – can’t wait to see what happens in the winter (still 23 days to go officially).

Global Warming?

Well us Brits cannot help ourselves when it comes to talking about the weather and our media goes in to full hype mode with lurid headlines “Arctic Blast to hit the UK” etc.. however we have just had the coldest November night since records begun (-8 in our garden at 9.00am this morning) and a walk in the Park this morning gave the most bizarre experience of leaves still falling but on 2” of snow.  With a forecast of severe snow for tonight we have just tried to go to the next village of Winterton to stock up on milk etc and I don’t believe I’m saying this but we had to turn back – the hill up to Winterton was completely undriveable with 3-4 cars already stuck and visibility down to a few metres as the flakes falling  were so thick - so here’s the photos I took on the way just to prove I’m not in media hyper mode.

What a difference an hour can make –the first two taken this morning, the rest taken this afternoon!

Scunthorpe Waxwings at last

No photos but whilst sat in my Mother's sitting room this morning I noticed 12 Waxwings land at the top of  a Poplar tree on Collinson Avenue - these are the first I have seen following a large influx of these fabulous birds in to the country this autumn.

Pied Billed Grebe little video

Pied Billed Grebe

Had a rare twitch today over the Pennines to Hollingworth Lake just outside Rochdale to see this visitor from North America – amazing that a bird with such short stubby wings can make it across the Atlantic.

A few more of the Rough-Legged Buzzard

Taken yesterday morning the Buzzard still at South Ferriby but photos poor due to light and distance – well that’s Wayne’s excuse.

Rough-Legged Buzzard

Good raptor day on the Humber with 8 species seen and the highlight this juvenile Rough-Legged Buzzard.  A good tussle between a Peregrine and Short-Eared Owl finished the afternoon off.
